About the Talk Blue carbon ecosystem services can lead to an increased value of coastal wetlands for their ability to sequester and store carbon in their biomass and soils. Protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems can prevent CO2 emissions, increase carbon sequestration, and reduce emissions of methane and nitrous oxide, while supporting other key ecosystem services. The voluntary carbon market provides a platform for those interested in reducing their carbon footprint to invest in offsets that support sustainable projects. This presentation will cover the basics of the voluntary carbon market, approved methodologies for tidal wetland restoration activities, project requirements to earn offsets, and challenges and remaining science needs. |
