Two pilot products were investigated: 1) global maps of monthly global air-sea CO2 fluxes and 2) an assessment of the contribution of coastal ecosystems to regional carbon budgets preformed by two closely related NASA IDS projects.
Two research projects established a foundation for entirely new types of ocean carbon products: 1) to develop a technique for routinely assessing phytoplankton carbon biomass in the field and 2) use of biological and bio-optical observations to address the role of calcifying phytoplankton in the carbon dynamics of the Arctic Ocean.
